Isabel

Ayer se me ocurrió dibujar las caras de algunos de los personajes de la serie Isabel mientras veía el último capítulo. Es curioso, siempre salen expresiones de angustia, seriedad, concentración, o desconfianza. Este tipo de práctica sirve para estudiar poses y gestos, a la vez que rasgos faciales a la hora de retratar a alguien. Puede que si tengo otro ratejo haga algo de provecho con estos bocetos...

Yesterday, I drew faces from some of the characters of the TV series Isabel, whyle I was wathching the last episode. It's curious, just anguish, seriousness, concentration or distrust expressions. This kind of practise is useful to study poses and gestures, at the same time we try new facial features when we  make a portrait of someone. Maybe I'll do something better with this sketches if I have another time...

Últimamente siento que estoy aprendiendo a dibujar de nuevo.

I feel like I'm learning to draw again, lately. 

 

Pensando en ilustrar

Pues sí, después de un mes dedicado intensamente a la pintura, me apetecía mucho coger mi libreta roja y dibujar cualquier cosa que se me pusiera por delante. Además, estoy empezando a planear mi próximo proyecto anual... y os aseguro que llevará mucho dibujo. De momento, una muestra de la serie de bocetos alla prima a base de Stabilo naranja, muy próxima a la ilustración tradicional.
Por cierto, me encanta este estilo; me recuerda a los cuentos y leyendas de antaño, cuando las ilustraciones eran grabados en realidad. Es curioso sentir nostalgia de una época que no he vivido...

So, after a whole paint-devoted month, I was anxious to take my red sketchbook and draw anything I could see around me. Moreover, I'm starting to plan the next proyect of the year... and I can assure you it'll be about very much drawing. Now, just a sample of this series of sketches alla prima, made with orange Stabilo pen, very close to traditional illustration.
By the way, I love this style of drawing; it reminds me ancient tales and leyends, when illustations came in form of etchings actually. It's courious when you feel nostalgic for times you've never lived in...

Acabamos de publicar un nuevo número de la Revista Cossío, donde he decidido aportar mi granito de arena con esta tira cómica. Sé que el humor no es lo que mejor se me da, pero aun así me apetecía hacer un guiño en relación al sistema de autobuses urbanos conquenses (archiconocidos por su pasmante mala organización).
Años atrás, también publiqué algunas otras cosillas, como fotografías, portadas, etc. o incluso me encargaron la maquetación de la revista.

PD: No tengo nada en contra del humor inglés, al contrario, por eso titulo así mis tiras cómicas (y por otras razones aun más evidentes...)

We've just published a new issue of the Cossío Magazine, where I decided to contribute with this comic strip. I'm not specialized in humour, but anyway, I wanted to do something related to the urban buses system of Cuenca (known for their astonishing bad organization).
Last years, I published some other stuff here, like photografs, covers, etc. or they even told me to edit the whole magazine.

PS: I don't have anything against british humour, quite the opposite, that's why I proudly name my comic strips that way (and because of other obvious reasons).

Como el verano anterior, me estoy dedicando a dibujar algunos rincones toledanos en la libreta. Es una experiencia agotadora, porque subir y bajar por Toledo no es ninguna tontería, y además hay que aguantar el tipo mientras te observan los turistas curiosos. Sin embargo, está resultando un trabajo agradecido, y, aunque no pueda sacar los dibujos de la libreta, sé que me servirán en un futuro para proyectos posteriores (y estoy aprendiendo muchas curiosidades que la gente menciona sobre los sitios en los que he dibujado). Quién sabe, a lo mejor me arranco a pintar en mitad de Zocodover.

As I did the last Summer, I'm drawing some places in Toledo in my  sketch book. It's a very exhausting experience, because I have to walk up and down in Toledo, and also withstand glances of some curious tourists. Anyway, It's being a grateful task, and, though I can't get out he drawings from the skecth book, I know they will be useful for next proyects (and I'm learning lots of curiosities that the people say about the places I've been drawing). Who knows? Maybe I'll try to paint in the middle of Zocodover Square someday. If somebody wants to see the sketch I made the last year within this topic, click here.
